Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK)
What is UPK?
The VCS Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program is a free, grant-funded early education program for eligible four-year-old children residing within the district's boundaries. The primary goal of UPK is to provide a developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experience that fosters children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, ultimately preparing them for kindergarten. This program, operating for a full or half day, five days a week, follows the New York State Prekindergarten Learning Standards and are led by highly qualified and certified early childhood education teachers.
Due to funding and space limitations, we utilize a lottery system to enroll students in our UPK programs. If your child is a twin, both children will be entered into the lottery as a single entry. If your child does not receive a slot in the lottery, they will move to a waitlist and may receive a slot as they open.
